Project Case Study: Producing Medical Promotional Videos For A Pharmaceutical Client For Over 50 Countries!
During summer, we were commissioned by one of our long-term, blue-chip clients to produce a set of medical promo videos for use in the pharmaceutical industry.
We were asked to create four videos that demonstrated a product, each to be used in different regions around the world, in a high-end, TV advertisement type style.
The crux of the work began in Q4 of 2024, and involved many aspects of the film making journey, from booking studios, auditioning actors and organising props, all the way through to the final deliverables which included over 50 different translated language versions.
While not every project needs all of these steps, we thought it would be a nice project to document, in the hope that it will give you a good feel for what a project with us is actually like and how a single video project could affordably be used, across the entire world.
As mentioned above, the idea was to make four videos that demonstrated a medical product, for use in different regions, in a clear, clean, high-end style, akin to the quality you would see in a TV advertisement.
To deliver this quality and consistency across the four videos, it was clear that we would need to make sure that the variables involved in the project were as controllable as possible, which would mean shooting in a studio and using professional actors and voice over artists.
The deliverables for the project were to create the four base videos, plus 50+ different language translations, using one of the four base videos that best suited the region needed for the translation.
Over the years in the industry, we’ve used many studios and know them very well, so after deciding on the right one for this specific project and sorting props, we went to work auditioning and casting actors and voice over artists.
Pre-shoot we made sure to know the storyboard back-to-front, we normally do this anyway, but extra caution had to be taken for this project.
As this was for a medical product it has to pass through a strict legal process, so filming the content needs to be precise – no room for improv here!
The shoot arrived, which was a one camera shoot, shot in kitchen/living space set-up, over three days.
Our client came on set, so everyone could make sure they were happy before we progressed with each shot (also, who doesn’t like time out of the office!) and because of the work we put in pre-shoot, the filming went off without a hitch.
The videos came together nicely featuring a professional voice over, captions, graphics and a colour grade, making for a very happy client.
“Awesome job on these videos, a huge thanks to Croft!”
Now, with the four base videos completed, it was time to move on to the 50+ translations, each having every caption translated plus a brand new voice over from a native speaker for whichever specific region’s version we were working on.
At the time of writing some of these are completely finished, but the rest will be keeping us busy over early 2025, which is always a good thing!
So, we hope you can see from reading this just how the Croft journey may look for you!
We pride ourselves not just on the quality of our work or how well we hit a brief, but on how easy to work with and friendly we are.
We also hope that by reading this, your brain starts buzzing with the possibilities of just how far one video project can reach, while keeping costs relatively low, whether that be a full translation of voice over, just subtitles, etc..
